In mid-20th century Paris, famous playwright, novelist, screenwriter and director Marcel Pagnol is commissioned by Elle magazine to write a serialised memoir. Now in his early 60s, Pagnol is uncertain that he remembers enough of his life to even attempt writing a memoir. As he sits staring at a blank page, a mischievous, imaginary figure of his childhood self appears. Little Marcel guides grown-up Marcel along as the writer starts to delve deep into his memories and record them on the page. From his bucolic childhood in Marseille, to the tragic loss of his mother in his teenage years, his arrival in Paris, his first taste of success and his transition from the stage to the screen with the advent of talkies.  

Directed and gorgeously animated by four-time Oscar nominee Sylvain Chomet (The Triplets of Belleville), this is an affectionate tribute to a legendary writer who had an enormous impact on French culture in more ways than one. A love letter to creativity, storytelling and the advent of cinema.
