A Tale of Winter (1991)

A Tale of Winter (1991)

Amongst Rohmer’s most spiritual and emotional works, this warm-hued holiday fable finds young mother Félicie (Charlotte Very) unable to decide between two men – librarian Loïc and hairdresser Maxence – who are infatuated with her, neither of whom she loves. Meanwhile, she holds onto an undying faith that a miracle will reunite her with Charles, the father of her daughter, with whom she had a passionate summer affair five years prior. Rohmer uses Félicie’s crisis of indecision to explore the power of faith, hope and memory in a film that contains some of his most memorable dialogue and most moving sequences.
