Wunderschöner

Wunderschöner

Australian & New Zealand Premiere

“Emotionally powerful, truthful and humorously wise.” – Blickpunkt: Film

Director and actor Karoline Herfurth returns to explore the joys and challenges faced by women in the modern world in this radiant sequel to Wunderschön (Europa! Europa 2022). The film follows the intersecting lives of several different women – some returning from the first film and some new faces – as they navigate life and love at different ages. Sonja and Milan are separated and delving into the treacherous terrain of modern dating as divorced parents; Nadine learns that her politician husband is enlisting the services of a young escort; Vicky is trying to teach her students about the erasure of women from history; and Julie has just started a new job as a production manager, only to encounter an abusive colleague on her first day.

Herfurth and her terrific cast craft a distinctly modern film that handles complex subject matter with sensitivity, honesty and good humour. The first film was a huge commercial success at the German box office, grossing 19 million Euro and established Herfurth as a leading voice in contemporary German filmmaking.
